BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI - A former peace officer, Cassie Barker, faces up to 20 years in prison for leaving her 3-year-old daughter, Cheyenne Hyer, strapped into a car seat to die on Sept. 30, 2016 inside a hot car while she had sexual intercourse at her supervisor’s home. The ex-officer fell asleep for nearly four hours, and returned to her patrol car only to find her daughter dead. The ex-officer herself was hospitalized for what medical professionals described as shock. A psychological exam revealed that she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, but was found competent to stand trial. Yesterday, Baker pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter in a plea deal.
