HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA - Frank Delgado, also known as Cat, was born in Pacoima, Ca, a barrio in the city of Los Angeles County in the San Fernando Valley (SFV) with a population of approximately 76,000 people, covering an area of 7.14 square miles. The city has somewhere between 15 to 20 high-profile street gangs, and was home to several notable people. For instance, Bobby Chacon, former two-time world boxing champion at Featherweight and Super Featherweight; Richie Vallens, singer, songwriter, and guitarist; DaShon Polk, former football linebacker in the National Football League; Levi Ponce, artist; and, Marty Wilson, Pepperdine Waves men's basketball head coach to mention a few.
Delgado attended San Fernando High School, and pursued graphic design upon graduation. "I walked inside a Barnes & Noble at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Ca, and purchased Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike. I had a closet full of Jordans (Air Jordan), 1s (Air Force 1), Blazers (Air Blazer), and t-shirts with the Nike swoosh logo. I wanted to start a fashion line, and become my own boss, but didn't have the courage to begin. It wasn't until I read Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike that I put one foot in front of the other, and began working towards accomplishing my goal," Delgado says with a laugh. "Like Nike's slogan, and trademark, 'Just Do It," I did it, and it has been an incredible journey."
The company's logo was created in 2015, and placed on multiple t-shirts. 818 Lifestyle Clothing became the company’s fictitious business name and brand. Sales rapidly increased, and influenced him to take his clothing line seriously. Sleepy Malo, recording artist, and Pacoima native, discovered the brand and decided to contact Delgado himself. Shortly after their meeting, Sleepy Malo brought 818 Lifestyle Clothing t-shirts on tour, and began handing them out to his fans in Japan. The clothing line has been featured in numerous music videos, and has built a strong fan base.
Delgado didn’t stop there. He created bridges between his company and a handful of public figures, including, Roy Albert Andrade, author and native of Pacoima; Tha Alkaholiks, Hip-Hop trio; Anthony "Citric" Campos, actor; and Gustavo “Big Gus” Chavez. Many of these public figures began endorsing 818 Lifestyle Clothing, and wearing the brand to major events in support of the company. Delgado has worked side-by-side with Andrade. Attending book signings and press releases, while cross promoting his company. 818 Lifestyle Clothing t-shirts, hats, stickers, etc. can be purchased exclusively from the company’s official website, www.818lifestyle.clothing, and at upcoming events throughout Southern California.
