SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - Cristian Perfumo is an Argentinian novelist of mystery, and suspense genres that take place in Patagonia, an area that blankets nearly 673,000 square kilometers of the southern mainland of Argentina, where he originated. He was raised in Puerto Deseado, a a small town consisting of roughly 15,000 people, and fishing port in Patagonia in Santa Cruz Province in Argentina. Perfumo studied computer science at the National University of the Patagonia San Juan Bosco, and moved to Catalonia, Spain in 2006. Not long after, Perfumo began piecing together the manuscript for The Submerged Secret, his first title, based on a British sloop-of-war, the HMS Swift, armed with fourteen six-pounder cannons, and twelve swivel guns sank off the coast of Puerto Deseado on March 13, 1770.
Perfumo moved to the Commonwealth of Australia, and completed the manuscript for The Submerged Secret within two years. He sent out the manuscript to dozens of publishers, but, received rejection letters in the mail, and finally decided to self-publish his work. Perfumo has exceeded the expectations of publishers, and has built a very diverse fan base over the years with readers anxiously awaiting for the next book title to be released. His second novel Dónde enterré a Fabiana Orquera: Un misterio en la Patagonia was published on January 8, 2014, and became the best selling book on www.amazon.es. Perfumo published his third novel, Cazador de Farsantes: Misterio y aventura en la Patagonia, on April 1, 2015, and was compelled to write a fourth book after receiving countless letters from fans abroad.
This morning, Amazon.com, Inc., the world's largest e-commerce company, announced its Fourth Annual Literary Award for independent Spanish-language authors is being presented to Cristian Perfumo. He was one of five finalists whose book, El Coleccionista de flechas, was read by a panel of celebrity judges, and selected from more than 1,800 submissions from 39 countries that were self-published through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) between July 1 and August 31. “When I hung up the phone, I hugged my wife and found myself overcome with happiness,” Perfumo said after learning his book had been selected to receive the award. “It was then that I realized the true meaning of winning Amazon’s Literary Award: a lot of new readers were about to transport themselves to my homeland, Patagonia (Argentina), through my stories. A beautiful dream come true.”
As the winner of the Fourth Annual Literary Award for independent Spanish-language authors, Cristian Perfumo, will get the opportunity to have his fourth book, El Coleccionista de flechas, for sale in Spanish by Amazon Publishing in digital, print and audio formats around the world. He will also have the opportunity to have his book translated into English and distributed by AmazonCrossing. Perfumo will also receive a cash prize of $5,000 USD. “This award recognizes the fact that there are many incredibly talented writers out there who have stories to tell and readers eager to access their work,” Kronbach said. “We’re proud to help bring these authors and readers together.”
