WASHINGTON, D.C. - According to White House officials, President Trump is fed up with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and plans to remove her from her position over what he sees as her lackluster performance on immigration enforcement. Trump abandoned a scheduled trip to visit U.S. troops this week with Nielsen at the border in South Texas and told aides over the weekend that he wants her to exit the Trump administration. However, Chief of Staff John F. Kelly is fighting Nielsen’s dismissal and attempting to postpone it. President Trump is searching for someone who will follow his lead and promote his immigration policies more vigorously. Nielsen served with the Bush administration's Homeland Security Council, and previously worked as White House deputy chief of staff.
