CINCINNATI, OHIO - Lindsey Caroline Vonn was born on October 18, 1984 in St. Paul, Minnesota, and is the oldest of five siblings. Vonn is of Norwegian ancestry, and stands at a height of 5 ft 9.5 in.. Her parents brought her to Buck Hill, a small training camp, offering a 300-foot vertical drop in Burnsville, Minnesota, before her third birthday, and became a Buck Hill team member. Coach Erich Sailer, helped Vonn hone her skills, and prepared her for success. Sailer is an honored member of the U.S Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, and put more athletes in the U.S Ski Team than anyone can name in the sport. She began racing at seven years of age, and competing in international events at nine years of age.
Vonn met Picabo Street, former World Cup alpine ski racer, at an autograph signing when she was 9-years-old, and from there on, visioned of winning an Olympic Gold Medal. At 14, she became the first American female "Cadet" to return from the Trofeo Topolino di Sci Alpino, an international skiing competition in Italy, as a winner, and evidently, catapulted her way into becoming a World Cup alpine ski racer after years of hard work. She is the only female Olympian from the United States to capture a gold medal in alpine skiing, and the only female athlete from the United States with four World Cup titles. Today, the 33-year-old is the world's best female skier, and has 76 World Cup victories among some of her accomplishments.
